Drinks of the Month - Margarita & Mint Julep Recipes


   

Margarita Ingredients:

  • 5 fl oz tequila
  • 3 fl oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 fl oz sweetened lime juice
  • 3 fl oz triple sec (orange-flavored liqueur)
  • ice cubes
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges
  • rimming salt

Margarita Preparation:

Measure the tequila, lime juice, sweetened lime juice and triple sec into a cocktail shaker and add a generous scoop of ice. Cover and shake until the shaker is frosty, about 30 seconds. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a margarita glass and dip in salt. Fill each glass with ice. Strain equal amounts of the cocktail into the glasses to serve. Garnish with a lime wedge.

   

Mint Julep Ingredients:

  • 5 fresh mint leaves, plus a few mint sprigs for garnish
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • shaved ice
  • 2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
  • lemon slice for garnish, optional
  • Orange slice for garnish, optional
  • maraschino cherry for garnish, optional

Mint Julep Preparation:

Place mint leaves, sugar and a splash of water into a silver julep cup or a 12-ounce Tom Collins glass. Muddle the mint, sugar, and water together with the tip of the handle of a wooden spoon. Fill the glass with shaved ice, add the bourbon, and stir until combined. Garnish with a lemon or orange slice, a cherry, and a few sprigs of fresh mint.
